When does soccer training run in Adelaide?

Football South Australia’s regular junior and youth season is concentrated through the first three quarters of the year, although different competitions start and finish at different times.

For 2026:

  • Youth Boys YCC/YSL and Youth Girls YCC competitions commenced across the 27 February–1 March weekend.
  • Youth Girls YSL commenced the following weekend.
  • MiniRoos commenced over 17–19 April.
  • major youth and MiniRoos competitions conclude through August.

Football SA describes its regular longer club season as running broadly from March to September, with some summer development activity operating from October to December.

Additional academy training and school-holiday programs can operate outside those competition dates.

Parents adding training alongside club football should consider:

  • club training
  • match schedules
  • school holidays
  • selection periods
  • overall weekly training load.

Dates can change between seasons and competitions, so families should confirm current dates with their club or Football SA.

Understanding the Adelaide player pathway

For younger players, the usual starting point is MiniRoos and club football.

Football South Australia’s development structure then provides different opportunities as players progress.

Its current pathway includes club-based youth competition and Football SA development programs. In 2026, Football SA Development Centres for U11–U12 provide additional sessions for identified club-based players, while its Summer SAP program for U10–U11 contributes to identification for subsequent Development Centres.

Older identified players can progress into higher-level Football SA programs and state pathways.

Entry into these environments can involve club nomination and Football SA identification; they are not simply programs a parent can purchase entry to.

Private academies can provide additional development outside this official structure, but attending a private academy should not be described as entry into the Football SA pathway.

When assessing additional training, parents should ask whether the program is:

  • additional technical training alongside a club
  • a separate competition program
  • trial or selection based
  • formally part of a Football SA pathway
  • compatible with the child’s existing club commitments.

Adelaide training costs: some current examples

Adelaide training prices vary according to format and commitment.

As one current published Adelaide example checked in September 2026:

  • regular group training is advertised from roughly $24–$30 per session on multi-session membership plans
  • casual group sessions are advertised around $50–$60
  • school-holiday clinics are advertised around $55 for a morning program
  • private 1-to-1 coaching starts substantially higher, with introductory sessions advertised from $150 and premium coaching costing more.

Adelaide is more compact than Sydney, but soccer programs and clubs are still spread across the metropolitan area.

Football SA competitions include clubs and programs across northern, eastern, western, central and southern parts of metropolitan Adelaide.

Training location matters particularly for weekday sessions, when a program that appears reasonable on a map may still create a difficult school-to-training trip for a family.
