What we do

Finding coaching for your child is unreasonably hard. The options are scattered across club noticeboards, Facebook groups, word of mouth and websites that have not been updated in two years, and none of it is comparable. Most parents end up choosing whatever a friend mentioned.

SoccerChoice does two things about that. We publish plain guides on what the different kinds of training are and how to judge them, and we run a short form that matches what you have told us against the providers we hold information for in your area.

What we are not

We are not an academy, a club, a federation or a coaching business. We do not run sessions, we do not employ coaches, and we have no program of our own to steer you towards. If we did, our rankings would be worth nothing.

How we make money

Participating training providers pay us to receive enquiries. Parents are never charged.

The obvious question that follows is whether paying providers get ranked higher. The ranking is a fixed set of rules — how close the provider is, whether they have confirmed they cover your child’s age group, whether they have confirmed they offer the kind of training you asked for, and whether they currently have room. Providers cannot pay for position within that. A provider does have to be a participating partner for us to pass your details to them, which is a real commercial constraint and we would rather say so than dress it up.

Where our provider information comes from

It is compiled from publicly available sources and, increasingly, confirmed directly with the providers themselves. It is incomplete, and it is more incomplete than we would like.

Where we have not confirmed something — whether a provider takes beginners, or runs goalkeeper sessions — we record it as unknown rather than assuming. That makes us more cautious than a directory that lists everything and lets you sort it out. It means we will sometimes tell you we have no confirmed match when something suitable does exist nearby. We would rather be occasionally unhelpful than routinely wrong.

Where we currently operate

Sydney and Adelaide. That is genuinely all — we are not quietly national with two highlighted cities. If you are elsewhere you are welcome to submit an enquiry and we will keep it, because it tells us where to look for providers next, but we will not have an option for you today.

Children’s data

We ask for an age range, not a birthday. We never ask for a child’s name, school, photograph or any medical information. The how it works page lists exactly what we collect and what we do with it, and the privacy policy is the formal version.

If we get something wrong

If information we hold about a provider is out of date, or a match we made was clearly unsuitable, we want to hear about it — that is the fastest way our data gets better. Providers who want their details corrected or want to receive enquiries can start at for providers.
